[NOTE: This post will be on top for a few days. New material appears below it.]
When I moved from North America to Australia four years ago, many of my North American clients reacted as though I'd moved to the moon. I was just gone from their world, and no longer came to mind as a possible resource.
This year and next, I'm putting a lot of energy into changing that perception. I've always come to North America at least once a year and want to start coming more frequently.
Right now, I'm negotiating with a California regional government for me to visit and do a presentation for them at the end of October. I will almost certainly visit the Pacific Northwest on the same trip.
Governments or organisations who might like me to do a presentation for them, or consult with them in person, are in encouraged to get in touch! In addition to the "Field Guide for Transit Quarrels" (video here, Powerpoint and PDF here), I also do presentations on the "Be on the Way" principle of transit-oriented land use planning, and can easily throw one together on almost any topic that's been discussed on this blog.
I can't do them for free this time, but it's an opportunity for me to do small things without having to charge the client for the entire flight across the Pacific.
(Yes, this post is advertising. You get Human Transit for free, so there have to be some ads, just like on Google.)
By all means, don't feel guilty about tooting your own horn a bit!

But I can't find pornography on Human Transit.

So the East Coast is flyover country again?

Cap'n. Nope, just doing nonstops Sydney - Los Angeles. Not flying over you! Happy to visit NY any time someone wants to bring me there.

Hawaii is flyover country this time. :) (Or close to it...)
Heh. Now that David Bragdon is leaving Portland for the Big Apple, maybe he'll bring you in for a gig. :)

I will speak to my underlings at the Cap'n Transit Institute for Sustainable Transportation!

you certainly need to present your talk "transit-oriented land use planning" to the folk of Surrey BC ...but are they willing to listen is another story.

Cap'n, are you actually going to pitch this to Streetsblog (or Infrastructurist, or whoever else is based in NY)? I'd love to see Jarrett come here and explain how to build transit more rationally.

I can only hope that your next trip will be here in SA.

It may be too late, but if you can, check out the Rail-volution conference in Portland OR in late October. Railvolution.org

had read through your "Be on the Way" principle of transit-oriented land use planning, just wonder what should happen to those developments outside the 400m radius of a main transit line, if cul-de-sec is not an acceptable option?

Just in time for my birthday! If you're anywhere public in SoCal, I'll be there.
