strategic minds vs physical objects

Sunday I sliced off the very tip of my right index finger while searching for a pair of scissors in the suitcase.  The doctor called it a "guillotine wound."

As a touch typist, I've been contemplating topics that might be discussed without using the letters J, H, M, N, U, and Y, but the more likely outcome is a week or two of hiatus.  Send brilliant guest posts!

Just use your left hand. You’ll improve faster than you think. I had to type right-handed only for about six months in college when I lost the ability to feel and bend the fingers in my left hand due to a fracture of my radius and ulna. I probably reached 60-75% (making up the numbers) of my two-handed words per minute capacity.

Trials of the Illustrator deprived. What kind of person lugs around a pair of scissors?
Jarrett, I’m happy you’re so old school.

Good impetus to write about Helsinki, where I’m flying as I speak.
I squirmed in my seat when I read about your injury. I do hope it heals quickly.

Service has been cut from the end of the dextral 2nd line. Service restoration is anticipated following organic growth expected near the terminus.
Hope it is restored to its original condition!

Hope that you’re alright and that it’s not a permanent cut.

You might try dictation software such as Dragon Naturally Speaking. Works quite well for David Pogue at the NYTimes. BTW, I cut off the tip of my thumb once. It healed quickly but was noticeably flat for about 5 years.

Delighted to find your blog. Here is a link to my specialized transit advocacy:

I studied the Los Angeles Public Bus system in 1983 and self published a “Busbook” using a second hand store spirit duplicator and my mechanical typewriter. At that time there was an institutional dialogue about raising the bus system load factor. The whole huge LA county was covered by service standards.
But the American parameters for the service – resources – and revenue saddle keeps pushing the public bus systems back to service with agonizing cuts.
Getting out of the revenue and service saddle, ahh that is a question.

Like Dave, I was going to suggest Dragon Dictation (Dragon Naturally Speaking) for your computer, but it’s awfully expensive if you’re only going to use it for a couple of weeks.
    Hang in there!
